Grand Lake, CO — Shadowcliff Mountain Lodge & Retreat Center, in partnership with the Grand Lake Creative District, will host a public showcase featuring its 2026 cohort of artists-in-residence on Friday, September 11, at 7:30 p.m. at the Grand Lake Community House.
Now in its third year, the Shadowcliff Artist Residency brings five nationally recognized figures in dance, photography, poetry, music and multimedia art to Grand County. The evening offers the community an opportunity to experience the artists’ work and hear reflections on their time engaging with local ecology, town leaders and Rocky Mountain National Park. The Shadowcliff Artist Residency is supported by the Teazey Foundation and a Colorado Creates Grant via Colorado Creative Industries and the NEA.

2026 Artists-in-Residence
- Kimberly Bartosik (Brooklyn, NY): Choreographer, performer, 2019 Guggenheim Fellow and former Merce Cunningham Dance Company member whose work has been commissioned by BAM Next Wave and New York Live Arts.
- Tommy Kha (Brooklyn, NY): Photographer and 2025 Guggenheim Fellow whose work appears in The New Yorker and The New York Times Magazine, with pieces in the permanent collections of MoMA and SFMOMA.
- Saretta Morgan (Atlanta, GA): Poet and writer whose collections Alt-Nature, Feeling Upon Arrival, and room for a counter interior draw on grassroots environmental justice work and land dynamics.
- Ethan Philbrick (Brooklyn, NY): Cellist, writer and interdisciplinary artist whose performances exploring the politics of musical instruments have been praised as “overwhelmingly beautiful” by The Nation.
- Debra Yepa-Pappan (Jemez Pueblo/Korean) (Chicago, IL): Visual artist, co-founding director of the Center for Native Futures and member of the Terra Foundation’s Indigenous Advisory Committee.
Program Expansion & Legacy
Rooted in art, ecology and community, the residency is led by its visionary, Executive Director Alexander Thompson, who previously served as Program Director at the Foundation for Contemporary Arts in New York. Thompson builds on a family legacy in Grand Lake dating back to 1937, continuing the work started by his grandparents, Patt and Warren Rempel, who founded Shadowcliff in 1956.
This year also marks the expansion of the Still Point Sessions, a shorter residency supported by the Town of Grand Lake Donor Advised Fund. The residencies build on Shadowcliff’s long history of cultural partnerships in Grand County, including early support for the roots of the Rocky Mountain Repertory Theatre, the Denver Lighthouse Writers Workshop and the Rocky Mountain Folk School.
