The Colorado River Headwaters

Born from snowmelt along the Continental Divide, the Colorado River headwaters slip through alpine meadows and glacial-carved valleys before finding a mighty rhythm. Not only do they shape iconic lakes and sustain mountain towns, the headwaters hint at the power the river carries far beyond Colorado’s borders. Here, you can walk beside its early currents, paddle through canyon corridors, and plunge into the layered history of a river that helped define the American West.
