US 40 traffic shift planned for Tuesday and Wednesday between Granby and Tabernash
Traffic holds possible
Grand County — The Colorado Department of Transportation will be re-striping all lanes of US 40 to the final traffic alignment on October 7 and 8. In the event of inclement weather or other delays, October 9 will be a contingency date. This will be occurring along U.S. Highway 40 between Granby and Tabernash, from Mile Point 217 to MP 219.
During the traffic switch, motorists can expect brief traffic holds while striping crews are on the road. Once the lanes are shifted and the new traffic pattern is fully in place, two-way traffic with one lane open in each direction will resume.
Resurfacing improves the road surface by filling in chips and potholes, extending the road’s lifespan. Wider shoulders have also been constructed to enhance safety by providing a larger recovery area.
Crews will begin guardrail installation the week of October 13, with the project scheduled to be fully finished by late October.
“We understand making these improvements can cause minor inconveniences to everyday traffic, but the reward once complete is a smoother, better, and longer-lasting roadway than what was there previously,” said CDOT Regional Transportation Director Jason Smith. “This is especially important on vital, heavily traveled roadways such as this.”
Travel Impacts
- Temporary construction patterns are in effect throughout the project. As paving progresses, traffic lanes will be shifted. However, two-way traffic with one lane open in each direction will be maintained.
- During paving and striping operations, motorists may experience alternating lane closures and delays of up to 20 minutes. These closures will be announced in advance on COtrip.org.
- Motorists should leave additional time when driving through the work zone due to the reduced speed limit.
- The speed limit is reduced to 45 mph through the work zone. If flaggers are present, the speed limit may be further reduced to 40 mph.
- Work will occur during daytime hours, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. - Monday through Friday.
