Rocky Mountain Folk School Seeks Tools to Power New Grand Spirit Makerspace, Preserve Heritage Crafts
Grand Lake, CO – As many people think about making end-of-year donations to worthy causes, the Colorado-certified Grand Lake Creative District (GLCD) encourages them to consider a donation to equip the new Grand Spirit Makerspace, which will be run by the Rocky Mountain Folk School.
As a cornerstone component of the new Space to Create Grand Lake development, the Grand Spirit Makerspace is expected to start hosting classes in summer 2026, which will continue to be offered year-round. The Makerspace will be a professional, accessible workshop where people of all ages can explore essential heritage crafts, including woodworking, leatherworking, silversmithing, boat building and traditional cowboy trades, just to name a few. The space will serve beginners, hobbyists, ranchers and visiting learners by providing tools, instruction and a welcoming environment to learn skills that preserve the heritage crafts of the region.
“The Grand Spirit Makerspace is a vital investment in our future,” said Steve Kudron, Town Manager of Grand Lake. “It will allow us to offer hands-on classes year-round, inspiring a new generation while supporting local artisans and preserving the rare trades that define Colorado’s cultural identity. Your donation directly funds the equipment and supplies we need to turn this vision into a hands-on reality and finally open the doors.”
How to Donate & Equip the MakerspaceKudron adds that items can be fully or partially funded or donated directly. Major equipment sponsors may be permanently recognized with a dedicated plaque in the Grand Spirit Makerspace.
Some of the critical equipment needs include wood lathes, table saw, jointer, surface planer, router table, cobra leather finishers, and various silversmith items, including steel bench block and jeweler’s handsaw. Support is also needed for storage, seating, conference room, technology and maintenance equipment.
