Mount Craig / Mount Baldy
Hiking Mount Baldy
Hiking to Mount Baldy’s summit earns some of the best views of Grand Lake and Shadow Mountain Lake. Along your journey to the top, you will see the headwaters of the Colorado River, as well as various pristine alpine lakes that run along the base of the mountain. In summer, the trail blooms with bright yellow and violet wildflowers — and in autumn it’s an excellent place to see the region’s golden aspens from above. However, the trek to this tall summit is no easy feat. Be sure to bring lots of water and snacks, keep an eye on the weather and take an extra layer along.
A multi-mile hike is not required to enjoy the views of Mount Baldy. Head to Grand Lake Marina and launch a canoe, kayak or motorboat on the lake for spectacular views of Mount Craig overhead. Or, just sit by the water’s edge at sunset and gaze at the candy-colored skies that surround the summit.
Please check whether Rocky Mountain National Park requires a timed entry pass for your visit.
