PBS Hometown in Grand County Colorado

In the Hometowns episode “Grand County, Colorado,” viewers are taken into a mountain landscape of rugged terrain, resilient communities, and a tourism-driven economy where the challenges of living high above sea level meet the rewards of wild, uncompromising scenery. 

The narrative traces the county’s evolution—from the homesteaders and ranchers who struggled for survival in the late 1800s, through the ditches, dams and mining camps, to the modern role tourism plays as both lifeblood and burden.  Life here isn’t easy. The video isn’t about picture-perfect postcard views alone—it’s about the grit and flexibility required to build and sustain a home in a place where nature both astounds and tests you.
