U.S. 40 Highway 40 Red Dirt Hill Safety Improvement Project


The Colorado Department of Transportation and United Companies of Grand Junction have scheduled a safety improvement project on US Highway 40 between Granby and Tabernash in Grand County.

Work will include asphalt resurfacing for both eastbound and westbound US 40, shoulder widening, barrier and guardrail installation, new signage, striping and culvert and drainage work.

This work will occur from Mile Point 217, just south of the Cottonwood Pass Road, to MP 219 near County Road 53.

Project Schedule

  • Work is scheduled to begin on May 12.
  • Anticipated completion is late October.
  • Work will occur during daytime hours, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. - Monday through Friday.

Travel Impacts

  • During widening, two-way traffic will be maintained.
  • During paving and striping operations,motorists may encounter alternating-lane closures and delays up to 20 minutes can be expected during working hours.
  • Speed limit is reduced to 45 mph through the work zone during work hours.

Vasquez Creek Trail Closed for Improvement Project - Starting May 12, 2025 | Winter Park, CO—The Town of Winter Park will begin construction on the Vasquez Creek Trail Improvement Project on May 12, 2025. The project starts with the section of trail behind the skate park at Hideaway Park and ends near Confluence Park. It will improve trail access, formalize user areas, eliminate “social trails,” and protect the health of the Vasquez Creek corridor. Fraser River Trail to be Closed for Repaving | Winter Park, CO – The Fraser River Valley Trail from about .3 miles south of Roam Way to where the trail connects at Trademark Dr. will be closed to the public for three weeks this summer for a repaving project. The anticipated start day of the project is the week
after Memorial Day. The Town will post the official start date at wpgov.com/trail-projects2025 once available. The project will create a better, smoother trail experience goingforward and will include around 1.6 miles of the trail. Originally constructed over a decade ago, the Fraser River. US 40 Winter Park Resurfacing | The US Highway 40 Winter Park resurfacing project will improve approximately three miles of US 40 from mile point 229.6, Vasquez Road, to MP 233, near Winter Park Drive. Work will include milling old asphalt, paving with new asphalt, guardrail replacement and removing and installing Americans with Disabilities Act ramps on US 40 at Blaze Resorts, Village Drive, Old Town Drive and Winter Park Drive. Additional work will consist of bridge joint repairs on US 40 at MP 224, in the community of Tabernash.

US 40 Winter Park Resurfacing Traffic Impacts Monday through Thursday from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. | US Highway 40 eastbound and westbound single lane closure from Mile Point 229.6, Vasquez Road, to MP 234, Midland Group Campground.
