Carve Your Own Masterpiece: Grand Lake Creative District’s Rocky Mountain Folk School Offers Hands-On Ice Sculpting Workshop
Workshop part of the Grand Lake Viking Winter Carnival on Feb. 7
Grand Lake, CO – The Grand Lake Creative District(GLCD) – a Colorado-certified hub for arts, culture and heritage – announces a hands-on Ice Sculpting Workshop hosted by the Rocky Mountain Folk School. The workshop, which will be held on Saturday, Feb. 7, from 10-12 p.m., is part of the Grand Lake Viking Winter Carnival. The carnival features a day full of cold-weather fun, including a snowmobile parade, snowmobile racing, bed sled races and much more. The Winter Carnival Viking Ball – where everyone is encouraged to dress in the Viking theme – wraps up the festivities from 7 p.m.-12 a.m.
The Ice Sculpting Workshop offers attendees the rare opportunity to create a stunning piece of ice art under the guidance of expert sculptors from Denver-based Colorado Ice Works. The two-hour workshop begins with a safety and tool demo, followed by comprehensive instruction in design transfer and carving techniques.
Each participant will receive a clear, solid block of ice and all the necessary hand tools for their sculpting session. Team members from Colorado Ice Works will be on hand to assist throughout the class. When the sculptures are completed, a touch of fire will be added to polish them into a pristine, crystal-clear finish. Sculptures can be carefully wrapped and boxed for easy transport home, so attendees can showcase their winter art.
