From the earliest Ute Indians who bathed in the Hot Sulphur Springs and hunted buffalo on the open plains of Middle Park to the white settlers and pioneers who founded settlements and towns upon the promise of railroads, golden riches and a new life on the frontier, Grand County, Colorado holds a fascinating wealth of historical treasures and resources.

The Kauffman House, built as a hotel in 1892, is the last of the early Grand Lake log hotels in existence. Built to accommodate summer visitors of this scenic mountain village, the museum offers a unique perspective on the early tourist industry. It has been restored to its historic appearance with many original furnishings. Museum hours are from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. every day between Memorial Day Weekend and Labor Day Weekend. Open on weekends only in September.
